»Der Mann mit Hut« (man with a hat) was a series of short films for WDR's children's television, which aired on Sundays on ARD, right before the iconic »Sendung mit der Maus« (The show with the mouse). The man with a hat was created, written and portrayed by Stefan Hufschmidt. Using his white VW beetle, the man with a hat explored curious places, taught trees how to read, discovered love and found out what life was like in neighboring Kalifornien (California). One day, he woke up to find himself alone in the world. The five minute shorts were produced by Jan Markus Linhof and Eddie Schneidermeier. They were filmed in Germany and Austria without any budget to speak of.
